One of the cardinal rules of cooking is to always check your food for doneness before serving it. After all, there’s nothing worse than biting into a piece of meat only to realize it’s severely undercooked (or overcooked, for that matter). That’s why it’s smart to have a reliable digital thermometer in your kitchen drawer, so whether you’re roasting a chicken, poaching a fish, or baking muffins, you can always check to see if your food is cooked all the way through before pulling it out of the oven. If you want one that’s accurate and will last forever, you can currently get two of our favorite, top-tested thermometers on the market for a great price.

ThermoWorks thermometers have long been a favorite of professional chefs including Alton Brown, and have consistently landed the top spots in our testing. While they don’t come cheap, right now you can get two of our favorite models—the Thermworks DOT and the Thermapen Mk4—at a serious discount. While the DOT usually retails for $43, thanks to an Open Box deal you can snag one for just $30. Meanwhile, the tan model of the Mk4 is currently 20% off, so you can snatch it up at a sale price of $79 instead of its normal $99.

Why we love Thermoworks thermometers

If you’re looking for an ultra-fast, super precise thermometer for grilling, the Thermapen Mk4 is your guy. When we tested this thermometer, we found that the Mk4 reads temperatures in an incredible two seconds, faster than any of its competitors. With its patented 360-degree auto-rotate display, the probe can be used at any angle for easy-to-read temperatures at a glance. It also features an auto-backlight with a light sensor for dark environments, and is completely waterproof. Its high-quality design certainly warrants its expensive price, but thanks to this sale, you’ll be saving $20 on it.

On the other hand, if you’re in the market for a probe thermometer, the Dot is a great choice. It’s our favorite affordable probe thermometer because it’s incredibly heat-resistant (and can withstand temperatures of up to 700°F), which makes it perfect for things like smoking meat, oven-roasting, and deep-frying. It’s designed to alert you precisely when your food reaches the desired temperature you set, so you never risk overcooking your meal. Just keep in mind that since it’s an open box sale, these Dots may have been used in sales demos or have slight packaging damage, but that shouldn’t affect their performance.

While you could certainly find thermometers cheaper than these, you won’t be getting the reliable accuracy or long-lasting performance that ThermoWorks is known for. Plus, with these price drops, you don’t have to pay much for a cooking thermometer that’ll last forever in your kitchen.
