Coronavirus screening website launched by Google sister company Verily

A coronavirus screening pilot website for some California counties has been launched by a sister company of Google.

The site – which President Donald Trump had hailed as a nationwide screening site in a press conference that reportedly caught Google off guard – is now live and capable of processing information from people in California’s Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

Verily, a subsidiary of Google parent company Alphabet, created the website through Project Baseline, a collaboration with federal, state and local officials.

The site “will triage people who are concerned about their COVID-19 risk into testing sites based on guidance from public health officials and test availability,” according to Verily.

Californians can input their personal health information and then are directed to mobile testing sites to get a nasal swab test. Afterward, they’ll receive their test results within days. Only “high-risk individuals” are initially eligible.

“Ultimately, our goal is to help local authorities expand testing access in California as the need continues to increase,” Verily said.

Separately, Microsoft has launched an online tracker for COVID-19 at Bing.com/covid. The site features a live map showing cases throughout the world.
