Coronavirus store closings, changing hours: Retailers closing early

Retailers across the nation are trimming store hours to focus on deep cleanings and to restock store shelves. Some are closing stores, too.

Apple announced it will close all its retail stores outside Greater China until March 27 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Grocery store chains including Florida-based Publix, New York-based Wegmans and H-E-B are among retailers closing earlier. Changes at more regional and national retailers are expected in the coming days.

Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, said it might trim hours at 24-hour locations to give the company more time to clean stores.

“We are evaluating whether to modify store hours at some 24-hour facilities to allow for additional cleaning,” Walmart said in a statement earlier in the week. The company confirmed to USA TODAY Saturday afternoon that nothing has changed yet.
