Moe’s Southwest Grill is looking to start a food fight with Chipotle Mexican Grill over queso.
Reminiscent to a similar battle in 2017 when Chipotle launched its first queso, Moe’s launched a free cheese giveaway Thursday, the same day Chipotle’s new Queso Blanco debuted nationwide. Moe’s has been extended the offer through Friday.
Moe’s said in a statement sent to USA TODAY that the “queso wars are on” and claims free queso is “better than some new queso recipe.”
Get a free side of queso Thursday and Friday with any Moe’s purchase and a coupon on its mobile app, which you can access by entering promo code BestQueso on the app.

Moe’s, which has more than 725 locations, says it has served queso for “nearly two full decades” and wasn’t “about to take Chipotle stepping on (its) turf lying down.” In 2017, Moe’s issued a “public warning” about “queso imposters.”
Chipotle says its new cheese performed well in test markets.
Instagram influencer @dudewithsign is working with Moe’s to go after Chipotle. A post he called a paid partnership had nearly 300,000 likes and more than 1,700 comments in two hours.
Moe’s also posted on its Instagram page with @dudewithsign holding a sign in front of Chipotle that reads “Moe’s Queso is Better.”
Sonic $1 hot dog deal Thursday
Thursday, Feb. 27 is $1 Hot Dog Day at Sonic Drive-In. At participating Sonic restaurants, get up to five $1 hot dogs, which include the six-inch All American and Chili Cheese hot dogs.
To get the deal, you must mention it when ordering, according to Sonic’s website. Tax and add-ons are extra.
