Moe’s Southwest Grill is looking to start a food fight with Chipotle Mexican Grill over queso.
Reminiscent to a similar battle in 2017 when Chipotle launched its first queso, Moe’s is giving away free cheese Thursday, which is the same day Chipotle’s new Queso Blanco debuts nationwide.
Moe’s said in a statement sent to USA TODAY that the “queso wars are on” and claims free queso is “better than some new queso recipe.”

Moe’s, which has more than 725 locations, says it has served queso for “nearly two full decades” and wasn’t “about to take Chipotle stepping on (its) turf lying down.” In 2017, Moe’s issued a “public warning” about “queso imposters.”
Chipotle says its new cheese performed well in test markets.
