The charging wars are heating up.

General Motors announced Thursday that it is upgrading its myChevrolet mobile app to integrate features designed to make it easier for electric car owners to find available charging options.

GM said the app will now include real-time information on the availability of charging stations at nearby EVgo and ChargePoint stations so that drivers don’t have to wonder if a cord will be free when they arrive.

They’ll also be able to link their EVgo account to their myChevrolet app so they can pay without toggling back and forth.

GM rival Ford also recently upgraded its FordPass Charging Network to improve EV charging options for buyers of its electric cars, including the forthcoming Mustang Mach-E.

And Tesla, the leading seller of electric cars, continues to expand its own network of Superchargers, which work only with Tesla vehicles.

Taken together, the moves show how automakers are trying to ease concerns among car owners that they could run out of battery power in their electric cars.
